GREEN BAY – Someone who bought a Powerball ticket in the Green Bay area just became a $316-millionaire, if they claim the prize.
The winning ticket was sold at the Jackson Pointe CITGO, 2710 Packerland Drive, in Ashwaubenon. The retailer was announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon, but the winner has not come forward yet.
The Jackson Pointe CITGO will receive $100,000 for selling the winning ticket, Wisconsin lottery director Cindy Polzin said Thursday at a news conference.
“What a fantastic way to start the new year,” Polzin said in a news release.
“This is our fourth major jackpot won in less than four years,” Polzin said, referring to three Powerball jackpots and one Mega Millions won in Wisconsin since March 2019.
Polzin offered instructions for the winner.
“First and foremost, please sign the back of your ticket. It is the only way to prove that you are the owner of that winning ticket,” Polzin said.
The winning Powerball ticket is worth an estimated $316.3 million, or $225.1 million with the cash option, according to Wisconsin Lottery officials. The total jackpot of $632.6 million — the seventh largest in Powerball history — will be shared with another winner who bought a ticket in California.
The winning numbers drawn Wednesday are: 6, 14, 25, 33, 46, Powerball 17.
The winning ticket holder has 180 days to come forward and claim their prize, according to lottery rules. Wisconsin Lottery says those seeking to claim the prize should call before showing up at its office in Madison.
Wisconsin has had 19 Powerball jackpot wins since the game debuted in 1992, according to lottery officials. Wisconsin has had the fourth most jackpot winners of the 45 participating Powerball states.
In March 2019, Wisconsin had a record-setting $768.4 million jackpot winner with a ticket sold at a Speedway in New Berlin. In June 2020, two Wisconsin friends from the Menomonie area split the Powerball jackpot of $22 million with a ticket bought at Synergy Coop Exit 45 in Menomonie.
The Powerball jackpot was last hit on Oct, 4, 2021, when a single ticket in California won $699.8 million.
The current jackpot went through 40 draws before winning numbers emerged Wednesday. The $632.6 million jackpot has a total cash value of $450.2 million.
The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
