Supermarket worker listed as untraceable local case as HK sees 37 confirmed case

Health authorities reported 37 new confirmed Covid-19 cases on Saturday, including a local unknown source case of a 58-year-old woman who had worked at different supermarkets across the city.

Apart from this unknown source case, 30 were imported cases, and six were import-related cases. About 30 preliminary positive patients were also reported, including a woman who had been to the concert of Hins Cheung King-hin.

The unvaccinated 58-year-old woman, living at Lee Shun Building on Lockhart Road in Wan Chai, had been to many supermarkets in Happy Valley, Ho Man Tin, Causeway Bay, and Tsim Sha Tsui. She last went to work on Thursday. She developed symptoms on the same day and sought medical attention at Ruttonjee Hospital.

Her sample then tested a CT value ranging around 17, indicating a high viral load. The N501Y and T478K mutant strains were also detected, suggesting possible Omicron infection. She had been to the Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo, Dine Inn on Tin Lok Lane, Joyous Restaurant on Wan Chai Road, Lockhart Road Market, and Wan Chai Market as well.

As for the import-related cases, one was related to the Moon Palace cluster that originated from the Cathay Pacific male aircrew member. The case involved the crewman’s family member, who also dined at Moon Palace and visited the Apple store in Festival Walk.

That crewman’s family member was sent to the quarantine center on December 29, 2021, and developed symptoms on New Year’s Day.

Another import-related case involved the four-year-old daughter of the Surveyor who lives in Tuen Mun. She was sent to the quarantine center on Tuesday and tested positive the next day after being admitted to the hospital.

A staffer of CITIC Securities was also listed as an import-related case. His colleague’s wife once had breakfast with the mother of the infected Cathay flight attendant at Six Garden Restaurant in Tin Hau.

The 32-year-old staffer of The Y.Elites Association Ltd was among one of the import-related cases as well. She came into contact with a 37-year-old woman at the Brands and Products Expo, who had been to the birthday party of Witman Hung Wai-man.

As for the preliminary positive cases, two were linked to an infected Indonesian domestic helper. They were the female employer and her son, who lives at Mei sun building in Tai Po.

The woman had earlier been to the concert of Hins Cheung at Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom on Monday night with her husband. Her seat was located on aisle 46 and row 20. Other citizens who had been to the concert will have to undergo testing as well.

Her 13-year-old son goes to Salem-Immanuel Lutheran College in Tai Po, and he last went to school on Tuesday. His classmates and teachers will also be sent to the quarantine center.

So far, Hong Kong has reported 223 Omicron cases, while the overall Covid tally stands at 12,902.
